Iphone Charging Dock
A few weeks ago, I printed the iPhone Standby Mode Dock designed by
Scott Yu-Jan and Overwerk.
Inspired by the iconic Dieter Rams clock for BRAUN, the dock looks fantastic - but I ran into a few problems:
- The dock feels a bit cheap due to the lightweight PLA material.
- My iPhone 15 Pro doesn’t fit quite right. It’s supposed to snap into place via a MagSafe charger embedded at the front, but the magnets on my phone seem slightly lower, causing it to sit off-center and scrape against the left edge.
Luckily, Moeen Razzaque came to the rescue. He recreated the dock in Onshape and shared fully editable files.
From there, it was just a matter of adjusting the dimensions to match my case and realigning the magnet position on the back of my phone.
As for the weight issue? I added two screw inlets. After printing, I can drop in some weight (probably a few 20ct coins) and screw them shut for a sturdier feel.
